Screencast-O-Matic is an excellent way of creating Flipped Learning videos and it really couldn’t be any easier either.
It is really once you load up the webpage, click START RECORDING. It’ll download the programme onto your computer. This is where the only possible negative of the website comes in as, unless you sign up, the download is only temporary and everytime you want to do a recording you have to go through the process each time. Also, be careful not to press cancel by mistake otherwise you’ll have to start all over again!
Once downloaded you’ll get a screen like this:
The great thing about this recording is that it gives you several options. The two most useful is to either film everything that is on your screen or inside the black and white box (which you can adjust to be just a part of your screen) or having both screen and webcam which means it’ll film everything on the screen and your face in a small box at the bottom of the screen.
The maximum time you can record for when using this for free is 15 minutes, which is perfect because really your videos shouldn’t be any longer than that otherwise your students will struggle to stay engaged with it.
The site gives you a range of options to save it on to your computer, I always save it as an MP4 – not sure if that is best, but it’s what I use! From then, you can upload it onto whatever publishing format you want to use!
Absolute awesome website and absolutely vital if you want to start flipping your lessons.
